Technics SL-1210GR - Silver - Turntable - Record Player - Direct Drive - Grand Class

About the Technics SL-1210GR - Silver - Turntable - Record Player - Direct Drive - Grand Class:

A Combination of Traditional Analog and Advanced Digital Technics Technologies

Launched in 2016, the SL-1200G combines Technics' traditional analog technology and advanced digital technology while redesigning several components. Its outstanding performance really shook up the hi-fi market and raised the bar for direct-drive turntables. Components carried over from the SL-1200G have been newly developed for the SL-1210GR, starting with the maintenance-free direct-drive motor and precise motor control technology that eliminates cogging from irregular rotation, including low vibration, a strong plate and a highly sensitive tone arm. Because of these measures, performance exceeds the level of usual standards in its class. The SL-1210GR invites more audio enthusiasts to enjoy music with the rich, powerful sound of analog records.

Effortless Direct Driven Motor for Stable Rotation

In 1970, Technics launched the world's first direct-drive turntable system and took the world by storm. Unlike belt drive and other systems, direct drive systems rotate the motor at low speeds and the platform is driven directly. This provides many advantages, such as the almost complete absence of reduction in S/N ratio due to motor vibration and deceleration mechanisms as well as high reliability over a long period of time because parts do not need to be replaced.
And in 2016, Technics developed the twin-rotor, surface-facing, effortless direct-drive motor with rotor magnets placed on either side, eliminating irregularities in motor rotation, referred to as "cogging," a unique problem for direct-drive systems. This motor was introduced for the SL-1200G, which once again caused a stir in the hi-fi world. The SL-1210GR has the same design philosophy with the new development of a single-rotor, surface-facing, effortless direct-drive motor, eliminating cogging.

High-Precision Motor Control for Ideal Rotation Requirements

The rotation control that monitors and corrects the precision of the motor uses the latest motor control technology in the development of Blu-ray devices, just like that used by the SL-1200G. Sine waves stored in ROM are used for waveforms at constant speed and this provides smoother and more stable rotation compared to generating simple sine waves with an external coil in the conventional SL-1200MK5. In addition, the electrical circuit has been tuned so that the SL-1210GR's newly developed motor performs at its maximum. Starting torque achieves 2.2 kg x cm with only one rotor. The same startup time of 0.7s (at 33 1/3 rpm) as the SL-1200G is achieved.

Firmness and Vibration Damping Nastening

The plateau is strong and has high vibration damping using a double-layer construction with damping rubber applied to the entire back of the aluminum body to eliminate unnecessary resonance that is otherwise transmitted to the plate, producing a clear sound.
To increase slow mass and reduce vibration, the shape of the aluminum section was optimized by simulation. At 2.5 kg (including the rubber mat), the SL-1210GR's turntable is 0.8 kg. heavier than that of the preceding SL-1200MK5. The back of the platform also has added reinforcement to increase rigidity. Increasing the contact area with the cushioning rubber results in damping that is twice as good as that of the SL-1200MK5.

Tone Arm Achieves High Initial Movement Sensitivity

The tone arm follows the rotation of the record and allows reading with high precision. The tone arm adopted by Technics is the traditionally used static balance universal 5-shaped tone arm, using an aluminum pipe with excellent light weight and strength of tone arm pipe material.
The bearing portion of the tone arm with cardanic suspension construction uses a cut housing with precision bearings, as in the SL-1200G. The high initial motion sensitivity of 5 mg or less is achieved through manual assembly and adjustment by experienced Japanese craftsmen. This allows accurate tracking of the grooves in the plates.
In addition, an additional weight is included and the cartridge can be interchanged with several other cartridges to match the music genre or feel. (Applicable cartridge weight when using included extra weight: 10 - 16.4 g (excluding the included head shell))

High Quality Terminals for Both Sound and Appearance of the Technics SL-1210GR - Silver - Turntable - Turntable Player

The turntable uses gold-plated phono jacks for detachable cables and therefore a wide range of cables can be chosen from. Also, the use of the metal cover construction of the housing reduces the influence of external noise.

A Strong Housing and Silicone Isolators Provide Pure Sound and Isolation from Various Vibrations

The SL-1210GR provides strength through a double-layer construction that securely locks the BMC into the aluminum die-cast case. For the isolators supporting the enclosure, as on the SL-1200G, the SL-1210GR uses special silicone rubber that provides both high vibration damping and long-term reliability. Vibrations in the horizontal direction are absorbed by reinforcements using cylindrical tubes with microcell polymers. The isolators, adopted from the technology of the SL-1200G, have been tuned specifically for the SL-1210GR.
Also, the installation part of the isolators features a vertical adjustment mechanism with screws. This eliminates the noise that occurs when the turntable is installed in a rack or the like and prevents unwanted vibrations. In addition, the precise horizontal adjustment of the platter and recording surface reduces irregularities caused by rotation due to tilt, allowing records to be turned more stably.
