About the Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 - Black Oak - Bookshelf Speaker:

A true all-rounder, the Wharfedale DIAMOND 12.1 is a traditional standard (or bookshelf) loudspeaker that embodies the history and performance values of the Wharfedale DIAMOND series.

The perfect "affordable" hi-fi speaker, the DIAMOND 12.1 offers the best of both worlds: compact size with power and detail.

Perfect for 2-channel hi-fi systems, thanks to its intricate performance, but also compact and suitable for immersive home theater, the DIAMOND 12.1 is designed and certified to perform regardless of room size and application.

The DIAMOND 12.1 features a powerful 130 mm (5″) Klarity TM driver for exceptional timing and refined bass. The outstanding 25 mm (1″) woven polyester dome tweeter delivers open and smoothly extended high frequencies.

Clarity creates focus

NEW Klarity™ cone material formulated from a blend of polypropylene and mica adds stiffness to reduce deflection, enabling a lightweight cone with high stiffness, low discoloration and lightning-fast response.

Low color and expression at the Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 - Black Oak - Bookshelf Speaker

The Klarity™ cone features a low-damping surround, achieving both low coloration and expressive dynamics. By simulating many different cone shapes and adding ribs for further reinforcement, a flat response curve was achieved without resorting to a highly damping surround, thus finding the ideal balance.

A magnet of forces

A precision-made magnet system with an aluminum compensation ring to minimize the effect of variations in inductance during movement of the voice coil. This contributes to the absence of distortion and intermodulation generated by the "motor system.

A voice coil outside this class

The voice coil is wound on a high-performance epoxy/glass fiber coil, very unusual for speakers of this price level. This has the advantage of not adding eddy currents and delivering greater load capacity than an aluminum coil, while also being much stiffer than the Kapton type associated with this price range.

DIAMOND highlights

The 25 mm dome is made of a woven polyester film with a high-loss coating to deliver open and smoothly extended high frequencies. The magnet system and front plate are optimized for wide dispersion and uncompressed behavior. The faceplate is flat, exposing the dome as much as possible; only a very short channel on the faceplate compensates for acoustic loading and improves SPL (sound pressure level) measurement.

A crossover of style with the Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 - Black Oak - Bookshelf Speaker

The crossover network uses an acoustic LKR 24dB topology. This includes air-core inductors of the type more commonly found in high-end speakers, selected because they produce the least distortion of all inductor types. Since the resistance of the coil is higher than that of a standard inductor made of laminated steel or ferrite core, the magnetic structure of the mid/bass driver is adjusted to compensate, resulting in fast, clean bass without distortion of the inductor.

Firm and honest

The rear ported enclosure of the DIAMOND 12.1 is precisely sized so that the internal volume works in harmony with the drive system to deliver the desired sound result. A multilayer sandwich design dampens the recognizable characteristics of the cabinet's "sound. Even the resonance properties of the glue between the layers were measured to determine the optimum combination.

Brace yourself

Inside the cabinet, Intelligent Spot Bracing connects opposite walls with a specific shape of wooden bracket to achieve optimal reduction of cabinet resonance. These brackets are precisely modeled by computer simulation to improve upon the commonplace "eight-figure" bracket, which can simply transfer resonance from one wall to another.
