Acoustic Energy AE1 - Walnut Piano - Active Bookshelf Speakers - Pair

About the Acoustic Energy AE1 - Walnut Piano - Active Bookshelf Speakers:

The changing roles of hi-fi equipment are causing audio systems themselves to change shape. With the increasing number of products with integrated preamplifiers, many customers are looking for an equally convenient loudspeaker to connect them to. Taking full advantage of Acoustic Energy's considerable experience in active speakers, the AE1 Active is designed to deliver this convenience without sacrificing performance.

The AE1 Active is a two-way floorstanding speaker with integrated Class A/B amplification and fully active filter networks. Featuring Acoustic Energy's legendary pure piston-ceramic aluminum cone technology, the AE1 Active has all the refinement and impact you would expect from the original AE1 housed in a self-powered, fully active package. The speakers also feature Acoustic Energy's patented aluminum dome tweeter with our unique WDT waveguide for enhanced coverage and room integration.

Ideal for direct connection to audiophile DAC/preamplifiers and Hi-Res streamers, the AE1 Active combines three decades of AE1 refinement with Acoustic Energy's expertise in the active studio monitor sector. Fully bi-amped with two 50 watt Class A/B amplifiers per speaker, the design offers unparalleled amplifier speaker integration and industry-leading dynamics. The new Active model offers all the musical insight and detail that has made the AE1 the audiophile's favorite small speaker for 30 years.

The key to the success of the AE1 Active design is its unique pure ceramic aluminum cone technology. Now in its fifth generation, this 125 mm ceramic hard-anodized spun aluminum cone provides exceptional rigidity at low weight. This ignores cone flex and break-up nodes at frequencies typical of paper and plastic cone designs. The tweeter is an all-new Acoustic Energy engineered 27 mm metal unit designed to work in harmony with our Wide Dispersion Technology (WDT) waveguide. The result is perfect integration with the mid/bass driver, with extremely wide and spacious imaging.

Electronically, the AE1 Active prides itself on an all-analog design focused on performance without compromise. This includes wired analog inputs, both balanced XLR and standard RCA, linear power supplies of the highest quality and two paired, high-quality 50 watt Class A/B amplifiers per speaker. While the design team experimented with wireless inputs, switching power supplies, Class D amplification and DSP, none delivered the audio performance befitting a speaker with the legendary AE1 badge.

The active design allows for precise tuning to the listening room and placement thanks to beatable +/- 2dB trims for bass and treble response. Each speaker has a high-quality analog volume pot for systems without level control on the source component. Each AE1 Active connects to an AC power supply via an IEC connector.

Externally, the AE1 Active receives a completely redesigned cabinet. This features an extensively reinforced heavyweight fiberboard construction with internal damping panels and the introduction of a slot port for the AE1 design for the first time. With several Acoustic Energy models already benefiting from the company's lock port loading R&D program, the AE1 Active's port delivers an unmatched cross-sectional area, reduced baffle space and significantly reduced "wind noise" at high volumes.

The AE1 Active maximizes all the benefits of an active loudspeaker design. These include reducing crossover losses, eliminating speaker cable influences and delivering unmatched dynamic power. The result is a cohesive active speaker with performance that rivals passive speakers / external amplifiers that are many times more expensive.

With a bandwidth of 40 Hz to 25 kHz, an efficiency of 104 dB for 1 Vrms and a maximum SPL of 115 dB, no other small loudspeaker comes close to the AE1 Active's performance.

The AE1 Active is as comfortable in the home as it is in the recording studio. With the added benefit of adjustable bass and treble and a choice of RCA or balanced XLR connections, this speaker fits seamlessly into any listening environment.
