As a "flagship" speaker, the AE120 is the largest model in the 100 Series with a 3-way design. The loudspeaker delivers big sound from a slim enclosure and is tastefully designed to blend into many (household) environments. Twin bass drive units contribute to the "room-filling" performance with a dedicated mid-range driver in its own enclosure, carefully designed to reduce annoying effects/reflections. Integrated with Wide Dispersion Technology (WDT) waveguide, the 25 mm. soft dome tweeter manages the high frequencies with controlled dispersion, high sensitivity and low distortion. The 3-way crossover is impedance compensated to avoid resonance problems that might otherwise interfere with bass reproduction and mid-range performance. Special attention has also been paid to phase and time alignment for optimal integration and soundstage.
The result is a speaker with smooth and wide dispersion of high frequencies, a clean mid-range and fast bass. The enclosure is made of 18 mm. MDF and is weighted (extra mass) to dampen any cabinet vibrations. The internal bracing system is carefully tuned to reduce cabinet resonances and mid-range distortion. A styled discrete satin black plinth promotes stability, enhancing dynamics and stereo focus as well.
