The latest adaptation of Acoustic Energy's globally acclaimed 100 Series features an all-new, innovative design from the ground up.
The new 100 Series introduces a plethora of evolutionary improvements aimed at refining the listening experience. All models (apart from the AE108² subwoofer) feature our WDT (Wide Dispersion Tweeter) waveguide for improved dispersion, now taking advantage of our 500 Series signals with mid/bass drivers positioned closer to the tweeter. The drive units are all-new and designed in tandem to provide seamless integration along with improved response and power handling. Slot ports at the rear of each cabinet reduce chuffing and distortion, thanks to a newly machined vent for further smooth airflow. Finally, as a first in this price range, the 100 Series uses High Density Fibreboard (HDF) construction to allow thinner cabinet walls without loss in mass or rigidity - the result is increased internal volume that offers deeper bass response for a minimal increase in external size.

Product Description of the Acoustic Energy AE120² - Walnut - Floorstanding Speakers
The flagship of the range, the AE120² is the largest model in the 100 Series and a true 3-way design. This speaker offers great sound from a slim enclosure, tastefully designed to blend into a wide range of household environments. Twin-bass drive units support room-filling performance with a dedicated mid-range driver in its own enclosure, carefully designed to reduce the damaging effects of rear-wave reflections. Integrated into the perfectly matched Wide Dispersion Technology (WDT) waveguide, Acoustic Energy's 25 mm soft dome tweeter manages high frequencies with controlled dispersion, high sensitivity and low distortion.
The 3-way crossover is impedance-compensated to avoid resonance problems that would otherwise slow bass reproduction and color performance in the midrange. Special attention has also been paid to phase and time alignment for optimal integration and soundstage. The result is a speaker with smooth, wide high-frequency dispersion with a clean midrange and lightning-fast bass response. The inert cabinet enclosure is made of 15 mm HDF and, like its smaller AE109² brother, comes mass loaded to dampen cabinet vibrations. The internal bracing system is carefully tuned to reduce cabinet resonances and midrange coloration, while the new AE120² benefits from a subtly styled, discreet black plinth to promote stability, further enhancing dynamics and stereo focus.
Tweeter
Acoustic Energy's custom 25mm soft dome tweeter is designed in conjunction with the 100 Series bass driver to provide optimal integration and tone fitting. Combined with our Wide Dispersion Technology waveguide, the crossover area between drive units is audibly seamless, while the powerful neodymium motor assembly ensures reliable, distortion-free high-volume reproduction.
Drivers
The 130 mm bass/midrange driver used in the 100 Series is designed with a powerful long-travel motor to provide satisfactory volume levels and bass extension from relatively compact enclosures. The doped paper cone allows a higher crossover point for smoother midrange and seamless crossover with the tweeter, creating an extremely hi-fi, detailed and, above all, musical sound reproduction.
Housing
The 100 Series uses thin, 15 mm high-density (HDF) enclosures with carefully matched bracing, reducing damaging resonances while maintaining the body and substance of compact, practical cabinets. Rear ports* allow for smooth bass extension with minimal space impact, making placement easy. The AE109² and AE120² feature inert mass loading for added stability and acoustic damping, all models come with slim magnetic grilles.
*The AE108² is a sealed box without a lock port.
