Product description of the Acoustic Energy AE500 - Walnut - Speakers + Stands

The AE500 is a compact stand-mount loudspeaker from our flagship 500 series. Following on from the award-winning AE100 and AE300, the AE500 offers significant improvements in audio quality, materials and cabinet finish. The 500 Series features our newly developed carbon fiber tweeter and mid/bass drivers, designed to match the piston force and accuracy of our legendary ceramic aluminum drivers, but with improved self-damping for smoother, more transparent sound.

With unmatched performance, quality and value, the result is an audio product with clean, uncluttered lines that deliver an exciting and powerful presentation that discerning Acoustic Energy owners have expected for more than 30 years.

Finished in a choice of Piano Gloss Black, Piano Gloss White or American Walnut wood veneer finishes, the AE500 can be easily integrated into any interior placed on speaker stands or bookshelves.

Tweeter

Our 500 series tweeter features a brand new 25 mm carbon fiber dome. Carbon fiber is much lighter and better damped than other typical hard dome materials and provides a lightning fast, natural sound that will surprise listeners with its neutrality. The new WDT die-cast aluminum waveguide on the high-frequency driver is located close to the mid/bass driver for optimal dispersion and is extremely rigid to reduce vibrations transmitted to the tweeter, ensuring sweet, clear and natural treble.

Drivers

The 125 mm mid/bass driver incorporates new oversized 35 mm voice coils for low thermal compression and a very high motor power factor to provide a very dynamic yet controlled bass response. The woofer has an optimized motor and suspension system for maximum linearity and lowest distortion, providing definition in the midrange, while the lightweight nature of the carbon fiber cone material increases transient speed and clarity.

Crossover

The crossovers use high-voltage polypropylene film-wound capacitors and air-core inductors at critical locations for optimal dispersion through a smaller acoustic source within the crossover area.

The AE509 is a Mid Tweeter Mid/Bass (MTM) driver layout and both models use a 2-way crossover, while the AE520 uses a 3-way design.

Housing

These unique drivers are housed in our new 18 mm Resonance Suppression Composite (RSC) cabinets, evolved from the prestigious Reference Series and using the same limited layer composite to significantly reduce acoustic radiation from the cabinet that would otherwise color the sound.
