About the REL Acoustics HT/1205 MKii - Black - Subwoofer:

HT/1205 MKII (also known as The Cannon)

HT/1205 MKII sets a new performance standard for affordable home theater subwoofers. Avoiding electronic gimmickry in favor of well-balanced priorities; right-sized cabinets, solidly reinforced and beautifully finished. A sparkling new amplifier design that effortlessly delivers 500 W into an all-new CarbonGlas™ 12-inch (300 mm) driver. The sexy new black lacquer top plate has a subtle REL logo floating on it, while the expensively crafted black line-grain composite for the cabinet looks business-like.

HT/1205 MKII plays 50% louder than its predecessor, while also delivering more precision and subtlety. It is capable of output levels more often found in models over $1,000 / £1,000. Fantastic for music and available HT-Air rounds out a perfect offering.
Review what is possible

PERFORMANCE HOME THEATER

Series HT was designed specifically to meet the challenge of creating affordably priced, exceptionally dynamic, pure home theater-powered subwoofers. The HT/1205 MKII is the ideal combination of a lightweight, modern 12-inch CarbonGlas™ (300 mm) driver paired with a powerful 500 W Class D amplifier that stays cool and produces exceptional dynamics. Internally, we have developed specially modified home theater input filters that produce extremely flat bass in the 20s.

We wanted to build the loudest, relatively compact 12-inch unit available for pure home theater use, and at a very attractive price. You will judge how well we achieved that goal, but critics are already lining up for reviews. We believe the HT/1205 MKII is destined to become a modern classic with sleek cabinet dimensions, finished in an attractive but purposeful line-grain black aluminum look, and topped by a 12mm thick, beautifully polished top that serves to dampen vibrations on the critical top surface of the cabinet.

For REL owners who already enjoy our Reference, Series S and T/i subwoofers designed for both 2-channel and theater use, the HT/1205 MKII is designed to complement their system's .1/LFE output to produce extremely high output for home rumbling breasts theater special effects.

Designer Exterior of the REL Acoustics HT/1205 MKII - Subwoofer

The stunning new cabinets are custom-made; it has new textures, proportions and finishes previously unseen in the category. Lower, tighter cabinets lend proportions borrowed from our new Reference models. Over the years, our experiments have shown that this results in faster, deeper bass reproduction, all while looking great. Your eye is immediately drawn to the top panel, whose entire surface is finished with 5 coats of hand-polished piano black lacquer. A discreet REL logo floats in the top layer of lacquer, while the body of the cabinet is covered in horizontal striped composite with line beads. The whole affair looks expensive, tailored and tastefully understated. Plus, you can pair it stylishly with Series T/x or Series S in large, fully immersive REL HT/3D™ setups.*

Drive like you mean business, with the REL Acoustics HT/1205 MKII - Subwoofer.

The driver of the HT/1205 MK II is a 12" (350 mm) CarbonGlas™ construction as always, but all components have been reinforced. It has been improved in both major and minor ways, allowing it to deliver the best possible performance. Lightweight, stiff and quiet, the combination of primary cones of fiberglass with hub caps of real carbon fiber results in a cost-effective yet pistonic cone. Larger, more powerful magnets produce more energy. Improved suspension designs control the output of the HT/1205 MKII all the way to the limits of both amplifier and driver. The result is insane output while keeping the HT/1205 MKII subwoofer fast and fluid.

Hear this now!

Amplifiers do the heavy lifting in a theater subwoofer. We turned to a true first-tier amplifier supplier to build our latest design for us - they did not disappoint. They added thicker boards, upgraded the power supplies and did everything that results in a brutally powerful amp with remarkable longevity. Moreover, the MOSFET power modules rated at 800 watts ensure that this amplifier is just cruising along with its 500-watt output. It produces a truly awe-inspiring sound. While theater makes all the headlines, the HT/1205 MKII subwoofer's big secret is that it sounds sublime in musical applications. Grand and robust sounding, it is sure to become an instant classic.

PerfectFilters™: where it all begins - amplifier

REL input filters are well-known throughout the audio world. They combine ultra-fast crossovers, elevation filters that increase the flatness of deep bass, and explosive-sounding integrated limiters. This compact array of analog circuits is REL's secret recipe in both music and film sound. Refined in this second generation, the secondary filters are much higher in frequency; they make the dilution of air in the sound of an explosion much more realistic. Our latest circuit also includes a fully analog subsonic filter starting at 8 Hz to minimize the effects of infrasound from soundtracks.

at reaches well below the driver's resonance point. The result is incredibly delivered power with the ability to play all the way to the driver's limit without distortion.

Wired for sound: HT-Air

Wired for sound, where long cables were strewn across the floor. With our optional HT-Air™, great sound has become "non-wired. Wire has been replaced by a small transmitter and matching receiver that sends an incredibly fast 5.8 Ghz wireless signal up to 60 feet without digital compression. This affordable circuit contains the same LSIC chip that powers our state-of-the-art AirShip II, minus the expensive analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog (DAC) converters. The HT-Air is perfect for the .1/LFE signals using RCA connectors that are the primary mission of the HT/1205 MKII.

At 6 dB louder than any previous REL within 50% of its price, the original HT/1205 was a remarkable value.
