Advanced phase-accurate drive of the Technics SB-G90M2 - Floorstanding Speakers
To reproduce music with enhanced spatial sound expressivity requires that the wavefronts of incoming sounds from the speaker unit are all aligned when they reach the listener, regardless of listening position. The concept of point sound source is one of the ideal approaches to achieve it.
To achieve point-sound source reproduction, the coaxial configuration was adopted and combined with the original shaped linear phase plug for phase alignment and the smooth diaphragm shaped with a shallow shaped diaphragm and smooth corner edges for minimal sound reflection.
The 2-way coaxial loudspeaker unit of the SB-G90M2 was newly developed to reproduce mid- to high-frequency range for realizing clear sound image localization and high sound quality for smooth music full of emotion, while utilizing the concepts of point-source and linear phase relentlessly pursued by Technics.
Technics SB-G90M2 linear phase plug - Floorstanding Speakers
The originally shaped acoustic plug is positioned on the front side of the tweeter diaphragm and offers high-resolution sound reproduction capability and a wide soundstage.
The tip of the linear phase plug is made of high-modulus, high-density brass material. It prevents the plug from unnecessary vibration due to the effect of mid-range unit vibration, this provides clear sound with low distortion.
Smooth aperture
When a sound wave propagates along an irregular surface, the wavefront is disturbed by the surface irregularities and results in the degradation of frequency properties. This particularly affects the properties of high frequencies with short wavelengths.
The diaphragm of the mid-range unit, which is part of the coaxial loudspeaker unit has a shallow shape with a smooth angle to reduce sound reflections so that the distortion of radiated sounds from the diaphragm is minimized, resulting in excellent frequency response, phase properties and wide directivity.
This configuration achieves a wide soundstage and smooth, deep mid to high frequency range.
Stationary construction of the Technics SB-G90M2 - Floorstanding Speakers
To reproduce sound of music with a high S/N ratio, sources of all unwanted or unwanted noise have been completely eliminated.
To this end, the balanced drive-mount architecture adopted from the previous SB-G90 model was further optimized through the extensive CAE analysis, and the speaker mounting bulkhead was newly developed for the secure mounting of the speaker units. In addition, the rigidity of the entire cabinet was strengthened to take advantage of the balanced drive-mount architecture. The strength and shape of all components that composed the coaxial loudspeaker was extensively assessed to remove unwanted vibrations and noise as completely as possible. In addition, a sound path structure is provided within the cabinet. The new, unique structure effectively removes standing waves that cause a resonance peak.
Balanced drive assembly
Unwanted vibrations generated by the speaker mounting bulkhead are further reduced by enhancing the ventilation holes with CAE and allowing the woofer mounting bulkhead to penetrate the bottom board for increased rigidity. In addition, the optimized ventilation holes improve the distribution of sound from the rear sides of the speakers for improved response. In addition, the coaxial speaker mounting bulkhead is separated from the woofer mounting bulkhead to eliminate mutual interference.
Together, they further improve the clarity of sound and the three-dimensional presentation of the sound field.
Standing wave connection structure
A resonance called standing wave is normally generated inside the speaker cabinet by the sound of a certain frequency determined by the cabinet size. The most common method of eliminating standing wave is to install a sound-absorbing material inside the cabinet. However, because sound absorbing material also absorbs sound at frequencies other than the one that generates a standing wave, it partially removes the dynamics or liveliness of the reproduced sound.
As countermeasures, a sound path structure is provided at the bottom of the woofer cabinet to guide the standing waves. As countermeasures, a sound path structure is provided at the bottom of the woofer cabinet to guide the standing waves. Sound absorbing material is installed at the location in the sound path where the speed of sound is fastest. This allows the efficient removal of standing waves, which are the cause of resonance peaks, with a minimal amount of sound absorbing material. (Patented)
This structure allows the use of all the necessary information for accurately reproducing music, so that the speaker system realizes more vivid and natural medium and low frequency sound.
Very Strong Housing
Inside the cabinet, the speaker mounting baffle is combined with a side reinforcement board to provide a robust crossed structure and eliminate unwanted resonance.
Extensively Analyzed Optimized Components
To achieve accurate sound image localization, structural components such as spacers and wire penetrations were extensively analyzed to eliminate unwanted vibrations and noise.
Woofer of 16 cm. with Low Distortion and Long Stroke
Two 16 cm long-stroke woofer units are mounted. The magnetic circuit has two magnets, a long voice coil and copper ring to produce sufficient driving force.
Bi-Wired Speaker Connection
The woofer and mid-/high-range device are driven by separate amplifiers to eliminate the effect of the woofer on the mid-/high-range device. This realizes clear and transparent sound.
