Wireless Direct Driven Motor for Stable Rotation

The direct drive system uses a slowly rotating motor to drive the plate directly. This system has several advantages. It provides high performance, such as rotational accuracy and powerful torque, requires no replacement of parts and maintains a high degree of reliability over a long period of time. On the other hand, the direct-drive system would provide rotation that is irregular, also called gearing. A new wireless driven motor was developed for the SL-1200MK7. This motor uses a wireless stator. Removing the core (iron core) of the stator eliminated the main cause of gearing. Furthermore, the magnetic strength of the rotor magnets was improved to the highest possible level, and the gap between the coreless stator and rotor magnets was optimized, achieving higher torque performance similar to that of the SL-1200MK5. With smooth rotation and powerful torsion, this motor accurately and reliably reproduces sound from the groove on an analog record.

Several new features adapt to different play styles

Torque/brake speed adjustment

The latest digital motor control technology, accumulated through the development of Blu-ray disc products, is applied to improve tuning through the ability to separately tune torque and brake speed in four steps.

The pitch control function

The pitch control function allows fine adjustment of rotation speed within ±8% / ±16%. This is done through digital control, from positional sensing of the slide to rotational control of the motor, eliminating unnecessary DA conversion. This greatly improves tracking performance so that accurate and stable pitch adjustment is achieved.

Reverse playback function

The reverse playback function, which brings new possibilities of creative performance, appears for the first time in the SL-1200 series. In addition to 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm, a 78 rpm rotation speed is supported.

* The torque/adjust brake speed, rotational speed switch and reverse playback can be adjusted by switches on the main unit.

Highly Sensitive Tone Arm

Supporting the leading role of the DJ scene for many years, the tone arm inherits the highly reliable universal S-shaped tone arm with static balance. High precision bearings achieve higher initial motion sensitivity than the SL-1200MK6. This accurately tracks the groove on the phono record to ensure outstanding tracking performance with minimal stylus jumping, even under harsh playback conditions such as scratches.

Stylus Illuminator with high brightness and durable white LED

The stylus illuminator has a new push-type structure for intuitive operation, and uses a durable high-brightness white LED. The illumination area and intensity were controlled to ensure improved visibility of the stylus tip even in dark environments.

Power / Phono Cable Terminals

The cables can be detached from the power and phono cable connectors. The phono jacks are gold-plated to minimize reduction in sound quality. Because it is possible to disconnect the cables from the jacks, cable maintenance is easier.

High-density cabinet and insulator with high attenuation

The chassis, an essential component for reducing external vibration, incorporates the improved audio quality technology obtained from the development of high-quality turntables. The aluminum die-cast chassis is integrated with a special material consisting of ABS mixed with fiberglass to create a two-layer construction. The combination of this special high-strength material and a metal chassis improved the solidity and vibration damping performance to a higher level, creating a robust cabinet for superb sound reproduction. The isolator consists of a spring and rubber to ensure optimal frequency characteristics. This not only guarantees high sound quality and excellent feedback and resonance, but also effectively excludes external vibrations under high noise level conditions.
