Headphones and earphones have drivers that sit close to the ear, so sound is directed to the eardrum without first passing through a space. This makes the sound source clearly audible, but it is also sometimes difficult to distinguish individual sounds and instruments.
Based on over thirty years of experience with CINEMA DSP processing in home theater products, 3D SOUND FIELD transforms 2-channel audio into a multi-channel audio experience. The sound source is localized using our head-related transfer function (HRTF) audio technology, merging stereophonic audio, and creating a three-dimensional sound field from the 2-channel sound source.
Listening Optimizer
Internal microphones continuously measure your ear canal and listening situation, so you receive pure reference sound for the ultimate listening experience.
The size and shape of our head and ears determine how we will hear sounds from headphones or earphones. Yamaha's Listening Optimizer uses an in-ear microphone to measure the sealing and air leakage of differently shaped ears every 20 seconds. Played audio is optimized in real time to correct the difference between the source and actual listening situation to reproduce sound tailored to the individual listener.
Advanced Active Noise Cancelling
Yamaha's unique noise cancellation technology never disturbs the sound source, only eliminates unwanted noise to provide a clean audio signal.
Active Noise Cancellation is known to allow low frequencies to be lost when playing music. Advanced ANC is based on a new approach that suppresses ambient noise without applying any processing to the music signal.
Microphones in the ear record the combined signals of the music and ambient noise, then separate these signals and process them separately. This is made possible by a new, unique algorithm that isolates both signals.
After the signal is recorded by the internal microphone, the ambient noise is analyzed and what needs to be removed from the music signal is calculated. This means there is no unnecessary processing of the music signal and the music playback remains pure.

Yamaha's Ambient Sound feature uses the built-in microphone to capture these external sounds and play them back in the background while you listen to your audio, keeping you fully aware of your surroundings.
Listening Care
Listening Care optimizes volume balance based on a static (fixed) volume setting on your device. But things like content volume and dynamic range and music recording volume vary, as does background noise volume. This can lead to volume changes on the device. Especially if there is a lot of background noise, it may be desirable to increase the volume.
Listening Care on the EP-E70/YH-E700/YH-L700 uses a real-time, adaptive approach based on sound data from the last 5 seconds. This calculates the average volume level every 0.7 milliseconds. The correction applied to a 4-band EQ is adaptive in accordance with the average volume level. Therefore, the optimization is significantly more accurate and is continuously adjusted to the volume of the content. Moreover, the correction parameters are applied slowly during a period to create a natural effect. Your listening experience is adapted to the music and your environment, so you receive fully personalized sound - just for you.

Noise cancellation is fine, battery life is excellent, in terms of wearing comfort this Yamaha YL-L700A scores mediocre. It falls off and is very heavy for people with smaller heads.It sounds compelling even at lower volume levels, especially with Listening Care. Apart from 3D Sound Field, it is a good noise-cancelling headphone with a certain price tag.

To get right to the point: what a beast of a headphone this is. Yes it is expensive, but everything about the headphones justifies the price. It falls a little big around the head, but that's not a problem for me. The ear cups are comfortable and the soft headband also ensures a good fit. Hours on end with the Yamaha YH-L700A on is no problem, as the comfort is just super good. Only downside might be that due to the large fit and slightly higher weight, it doesn't always stay in place when you bend over. I noticed this while vacuuming, for example. Furthermore, I really only use it behind the computer while working. The sound quality is sublime, and the headphones are very comfortable. The included cable even adds some extra quality to the sound. I haven't really used the 3D options since I prefer to listen to the original audio. The ambient and noise cancelling modes are very convenient and work well. Noise cancelling on and you hear almost nothing around you, ambient on and you hear just extra good everyone through your music or podcast. The bass sounds slightly boosted, but this is just fine with headphones used for listening to entertainment audio.
